A former bowling alley will soon be the newest auto repair shop in the Township of South Strabane.
The Prime Collision Center is currently under construction at 390 Washington Road, the former home of Route 19 Bowling Center, which closed in April 2016 after 57 years.
Gary Flannery, chief executive of Prime Collision Center, said the company is expected to open early next year.
âThis year is a bit difficult for obtaining building materials. Due to these delays, we probably won’t be able to open until January, âsaid Flannery.
The Township of South Strabane Planning Commission granted final approval for the development at its June meeting.
According to Flannery, some of the people involved in the project are also affiliated with the Washington Auto Mall. Washington Auto Mall owns Washington Honda, Washington Hyundai, and South Hills Toyota.
However, Flannery said Washington Auto Mall did not own the new business.
âIt’s a separate entity. It’s a separate operation, âFlannery said. âWe’re going to send things back both ways. “
As the building has been vacant for several years, Flannery said there was work left to prepare it for the Prime Collision Center move.
âThere was work to be done on the roof. We had to finish cleaning it, âsaid Flannery, adding that they had to lay a new sewer line through the property. âWe are trying to update it with all the other developments that have taken place in the area. The building as it sat was a bit of an eyesore.
According to Flannery, Prime Collision is currently recruiting and hopes to start with around 15 or 16 employees, eventually expanding to 30 to 35 employees.
âWe’re looking to hire the best people we can find in the area,â Flannery said. “Fortunately Washington County has a lot of people like that.”
