Construction of luxury waterfront condos resumes


PERTH AMBOY – Plans for Saint Demetrios Housing for Active Adults, a luxury community of 27 units, 55 and over along the city’s waterfront, are back on track.

The one- and two-bedroom condominiums, designed by architect Kurt Ludwig, are expected to be completed in 2024.

The construction effort, which had been suspended due to the pandemic, resumed on December 19 at a Christmas banquet at the Grand Marquis in Old Bridge, hosted by the Philotimo Housing Urban Corporation and the Greek Orthodox metropolis of New Jersey. .

Philotimo Company was established as a non-profit real estate developer with a mission to build the St. Demetrios housing complex at the corner of Sadowski Parkway and Wisteria Street, near the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.

About 175 people attended the banquet, including His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros (Lambriniadis) of America, who noted that this event was to “re-initiate this wonderful and vital project”.

The banquet marks the resumption of efforts to build a community offering an Orthodox way of life, including community participation of Orthodox and non-Orthodox residents in the Church of St. Demetrios, an opportunity to keep the six hours of prayer in the chapel open 24 hours a day. open to residents day and night, to provide an optional Orthodox meal plan in a sanctioned Orthodox kitchen for observance of fast days throughout the year, access to advice on place by an Orthodox chaplain and a fully integrated Orthodox community with St. Demetrios Church across the street.

The complex will also include a multi-purpose community center of 300 people.
