Presentation wins Coatbridge firm after industry award

An employee of a Coatbridge construction company celebrated after winning a prestigious award at the end of this year’s Build Lanarkshire business development initiative.

Alanna Maxwell, of Building Finishing Services, took home the award after giving a much-loved online presentation to members of the Hub South West Partnership, which included staff from North and South Lanarkshire Councils and top construction companies.

The presentations and judgments took place at the end of the Fourth Build Lanarkshire program, which saw 10 companies from across the county learn how to win jobs from the public sector and major contractors.

The program was also an opportunity for them to benefit from expert sessions on business issues such as strategy, management, tendering, marketing and cybersecurity.

Alanna told Lanarkshire Live: “I am delighted to have won this award.

“The program was absolutely great and I gained a lot of experience. Above all, it gave me great confidence to move the business forward.

Building Finishing Services was founded by Alanna’s brother Cameron Greenshields in 2018 and employs nine people specializing in the refurbishment and overhaul of existing homes.

Second place went to Kirsty Hunter of BDL Demolition in Kilsyth, who was praised for her “commercial maturity beyond her years”; and third place went to Crawford MacGregor of Hamilton MacGregor Flooring Company, who explained how the family business would use the new knowledge to help it continue to expand.

The eight-week program was supported by construction companies Robertson, Morgan Sindall, BAM Construct, CCG, Kier, Linear Design & Construct, Cruden and Morrison.

Mark Houston of Hub South West said: “Congratulations to Alanna, the finalists and to every company that participated in Build Lanarkshire 2021.

“It has been a joy and an inspiration to work with these companies, all of whom have demonstrated incredible ambition, a thirst for learning and a willingness to embrace new ways to improve their businesses and they -same. “
